CKSC, DLSZ top junior basketball elims unbeaten
Two-time juniors defending champion Chiang Kai Shek College and De La Salle Zobel ended the preliminaries unbeaten at St. Jude Catholic School gym over the weekend (Oct. 6-7) to snare top seeding in the quarterfinals of the 49th WNCAA basketball tournament.
CKSC whipped St. Scholastica's College, 102-33, in Junior A, while DLSZ dominated St. Jude, 89-21, in Junior B.
This Saturday (Oct. 13) also at SJCS gym, the defending champ will eye the first Final Four seat against Group B No. 4 Miriam College at 8 a.m. while DLSZ faces Group A fourth seed and host St. Paul College Pasig at 9:30 a.m.
San Beda College Alabang, which ended the elimination round with a 47-44 squeaker over St. Paul to wind up No. 2 in Junior A, battles Junior B No. 3 St. Jude at 11 a.m., to be followed by the clash between La Salle College Antipolo and Poveda College at 12:30 p.m.
The league then takes a 26-day break before resuming with the midgets quarterfinal round, juniors ranking matches and the final seniors elimination games.
In seniors play, seven-time holder Centro Escolar University moved within two wins of sweeping the six-game elims after a 93-41 triumph, while Philippine Women's University kept second place at 3-1 with its third straight win, a 63-44 domination of University of Makati.
Defending champion Miriam and St. Paul notched third wins to keep their unbeaten records in the midgets division, beating St. Stephen's High School (56-11) and DLSZ (43-41), respectively.
