CEU, DLSZ, LSCA spikers clinch top seedings
Centro Escolar University, La Salle College Antipolo and De La Salle Zobel has secured the No. 1 ranking in the semifinals of the 49th WNCAA volleyball tournament.
CEU downed University of Makati, 25-18, 25-11, 20-25, 25-23, for a six-game sweep of the preliminaries last Sunday (Oct. 14) at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum. They will meet again in the semifinals this Sunday (Oct. 21).
Defending seniors champion San Beda College Alabang booked the No. 2 spot with a 5-1 card as it outlasted Philippine Women's University, 10-25, 25-18, 25-22, 23-25, 15-7. They will also collide for the other finals seat.
Meanwhile, juniors holder DLSZ is already assured of the Group A No. 1 spot even if it drops its final eliminations match to host University of Santo Tomas-Angelicum College, this Saturday, Oct. 20. It will take on St. Scholastica's College in the quarterfinals.
Group B topnotcher LSCA, which swept the five-game elims with a 25-20, 25-5, 25-16 triumph over Assumption College, will be pitted against UST-Angelicum in the round of eight.
Defending midgets champion DLSZ and host St. Paul College Pasig, both unbeaten in six games, will dispute the top seeding also this Saturday.
In senior futsal, league-leading CEU moved a point ahead of joint second-placers San Beda and University of Asia & the Pacific after nipping PWU, 2-1, also last Sunday at SPCP gym in Pasig.
CEU has nine points on three wins and a loss while San Beda and UA&P have eight points apiece.
DLSZ, which stretched its unbeaten streak to four after a 7-5 win over Miriam, are on top of the juniors field.
