CEU, Chiang Kai Shek, Miriam fives near WNCAA titles
Titleholders Centro Escolar University, Chiang Kai Shek College and Miriam College moved a win away from retaining their basketball titles after contrasting Game 1 wins in their best-of-three series at St. Jude Catholic School gym in Manila over the weekend (Nov. 10-11).
Mercy Lawan fired a game-high 16 points while Ysai Llosala and Stefhanie Ventura combined for 23 points as the CEU Lady Scorpions upended the Philippine Women’s University Patriots, 75-68.
CEU will go for its eighth consecutive seniors crown this Saturday (Nov. 17) at 11 a.m. the Rizal Memorial Coliseum. If PWU levels the series, the winner-take-all match will be played the following day. In the juniors level, two-time defending champion CKSC got 16 points from Mary Lyn Olive Estacio en route to a 69-36 victory over De La Salle Zobel.
La Salle College Antipolo secured third spot with an 85-55 whipping of St. Jude.
Miriam is likewise a win away from keeping its midgets crown after nipping host St. Paul College Pasig, 50-49. Last year’s Most Valuable Player Camille Dianne Nolasco fired a remarkable 35 points, more than half the output of either squads.
