CEU, San Beda fives whip foes

Centro Escolar University showed why it is the eight-time defending champion right on the opening day of the WNCAA Season 50, trouncing University of Makati, 69-27, at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

San Beda College Alabang also dominated University of Asia & the Pacific, 60-34, in the other senior match.

The CEU Lady Scorpions are also the defending champions in senior volleyball, cheerleading and badminton.

The basketball matches were played after the opening ceremony graced by Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and the hip hop dance competition won by St. Paul College Pasig (junior) and UA&P (senior).

On Sunday, all but one of seven volleyball games were decided in straight sets at St. Scholastica gym.

San Beda made it a double over UA&P, 25-15, 25-23, 25-15; Assumption College San Lorenzo downed Philippine Women’s U, 25-18, 25-19, 25-11; and UMAK beat St. Scholastica’s College, 25-9, 25-19, 25-11, in the seniors level.

In midgets play, De La Salle Zobel waylaid St. Stephen’s High School, 25-3, 25-2; newcomer Assumption Antipolo overcame defending champion St. Paul College Pasig, 25-17, 25-19; Miriam College beat Assumption San Lorenzo, 25-21, 25-23; and St. Scholastica put one over San Beda, 25-11, 20-25, 25-16.
